Product Details

Calcium Hydroxide (Ca(OH)₂), commonly known as hydrated lime, is a highly alkaline compound widely used in gardening and horticulture to adjust soil pH and improve growing conditions.

Calcium- the key component here - is an essential nutrient required for strong cell structure, healthy root development and balanced plant growth. With powerful alkalising properties, it is particularly beneficial when used in acidic soils where low pH levels may limit nutrient availability and overall plant performance.

Direct Chems supplies premium grade, high strength calcium hydroxide to support effective soil management and long-term plant health.

Applications

DECREASE SOIL ACIDITY

Rebalance Soil pH: Calcium Hydroxide reduces soil acidity by raising pH levels towards neutral. Correcting acidic soil improves nutrient availability and helps reduce the risk of aluminium toxicity, creating better growing conditions for plants.

How to use: Conduct a soil test before application. Evenly apply to the soil surface and mix thoroughly into the topsoil layer. Avoid deep digging whilst applying. Water lightly after application and re-test soil periodically.

CALCIUM ENRICHMENT & DEFICIENCY PREVENTION

Essential Nutrient Support: Provides a readily available source of calcium - a key nutrient required for strong cell walls, healthy root development and balanced plant growth.

How to use: Apply based on soil test recommendations to maintain optimal calcium levels. Application rates vary depending on soil type and plant variety.

STRONGER, MORE RESILIENT PLANTS

Improved Plant Stability: Balance soil conditions and sufficient calcium help strengthen plant tissues, supporting natural resilience against environmental stress.

How to use: Incorporate into soil during bed preparation before planting or early in the growing season to support long-term plant health.

IMPROVED SOIL PERFORMANCE

Enhanced Nutrient Uptake: By correcting pH levels, Calcium Hydroxide creates a more supportive soil environment for root establishment and improved nutrient absorption.

How to use: Apply during spring or autumn when preparing beds, borders or vegetable patches.

PLANT DISEASE SUPPORT

Protective Treatment: When combined with Copper Sulphate, Calcium Hydroxide helps neutralise the acidity of copper solutions and can assist in managing fungal diseases such as powdery mildew and downy mildew, as well as bacterial issues including fire blight and leaf spot.

How to use: Add 2tsp of Calcium Hydroxide to 500ml of water and spray directly onto affected plants. For copper-based applications, mix as directed to create a balanced solution. Apply during the growing season as required.
