Calcium nitrate is a white granular soluble fertilizer containing two nutrients and that is easily absorbed by plants. This colourless salt absorbs moisture from the air and offers a source of calcium and chloride for crops as well as being used to reduce sodium levels in soil. It is used in pre-harvest treatments of crop foliage, fruits and vegetables, low calcium content can cause decay and physiological disorders in fruits and vegetables.

Prevents Calcium Deficiency
Calcium deficiency manifests itself as poor growth, especially rotting tomato flower edges, rotting celery hearts, top brandy of lettuce, and bitter grain of apples. Browning or burns inside the tips of cabbage, lettuce and celery are all known to be due to a lack of soluble calcium. Direct Chems Calcium Nitrate puts a stop to these problems. Remove all affected fruit with a mixture of calcium nitrate and water every week for four weeks and watch your plant getting better being filled by fruits fully charged with calcium. Please do not use in hot weather as it may damage the leaves.
Some other benefits of Calcium Nitrate include: increased shelf life of fruits, increased durability when the products are being transported, and increased quality of products.
Blossom End Rot (Tomato), Bitter pit, and Cork spot- Foliar spray
For the home gardener, you can mix 4 tablespoons (60 ml) per gallon (3.8 L) of water and apply this directly to the root zone or one tablespoon of calcium nitrate per litre of water. Be sure the calcium nitrate fully dissolves. Otherwise, discard the portion where sediment remains visible. Remove affected fruits. Lightly spray the plant’s leaves and stems on an overcast day or toward evening. Avoid spraying on hot days.
Fertiliser
Top Dressing. Mix your calcium nitrate fertilizer with topsoil. Spread a thin layer of this mix over the soil around your plant or where you plan to plant. Do not apply it directly to the stem or trunk.
Side Dressing. This is most often used when your plants are grown in a row formation. To side-dress your plants, sprinkle an even layer about two to five inches away from the plant’s stem.
