Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) is a white odourless solid that is crystalline, but often appears as a fine powder. Direct Chems provides BRC approved Food Grade Sodium Bicarbonate (Natural Trona based), which means it is ideal for cooking and baking. The natural alkaline substance helps baked goods rise leaving the desired shape and texture. Our supplier is ETI Soda, the first production facility in the world to utilise innovative solution-extraction on a commercial scale. Our sodium bicarbonate is 100% natural and soil association approved. Majority of the sodium bicarbonate in the market is synthetically produced leading to high energy costs and problems associated with disposing of chloride-containing waste streams.

Baking

Sodium Bicarbonate also known as baking soda is an alkali used as a leavening agent, this allows the dough to rise. It is used in various baked foods such as breads, cakes and crackers. When it reacts with acid, carbon dioxide is released, which causes expansion of the batter leaving a distinctive texture and grain on the baked goods. Use as each recipe states.

Sodium Bicarbonate in Sport

Sodium bicarbonate supplements (particularly in capsule form) have been taken by athletes to aid the buffering process during anaerobic exercise. This allows the muscle to maintain longer baits of exercise during high-intensity exercise lasting 1-15 minutes.
